Mandriva Linux
Mandriva Linux was launched in 1998 under the name of Mandrake Linux, with the goal of making Linux easier to use for everyone. At that time, Linux was already well-known as a powerful and stable operating system that demanded strong technical knowledge and extensive use of the command line; MandrakeSoft saw this as an opportunity to integrate the best graphical desktop environments and contribute its own graphical configuration utilities to quickly become famous for setting the standard in Linux ease of use. In February 2005, MandrakeSoft merged with Brazil's Conectiva to form Mandriva S.A., with headquarters in Paris, France. In August 2010 the company suspended the trading of its shares on the Euronext stock exchange. Mandriva SA was formally liquidated in May 2015.

Tomas Hrcka has announced the release of a new development snapshot of Fedora. The Fedora 36 Beta ships with GNOME 42, LXQt 1.0, and version 3.1 of the Ruby development language. Wayland support running on NVIDIA video cards has been improved and is now supported by default. "Fedora 36 Workstation Beta includes GNOME 42, the newest release of the GNOME desktop environment. GNOME 42 includes a global dark style UI setting. It also has a redesigned screenshot tool. And many core GNOME apps have been ported to the latest version of the GTK toolkit, providing improved performance and a modern look. Fedora Silverblue and Kinoite now have /var on a separate subvolume for new installs, which makes handling snapshots of dynamic data easier to manage independently from the system snapshots. Fans of the lightweight LXQt desktop environment will be glad to see the upstream 1.0 release in Fedora Linux 36. You can install the LXQt Spin directly or install LXQt alongside your existing desktop environment. If you use the proprietary NVIDIA driver, GDM sessions will now use Wayland by default." NEW • Distribution Release: Finnix 124 |

|
The Finnix distribution is a small, self-contained, bootable Linux CD distribution for system administrators, based on Debian. The project celebrates its 22nd anniversary this month with the release of Finnix 124. "Finnix 124 includes a number of fixes, new packages and new features: wifi-connect helper utility will now display nearby access points if invoked without any command line options. ip= kernel command line network configuration now supports netmasks in addition to prefix lengths. Added a pure Python strings implementation. Explanation from the commit: I had avoided including strings because, while it's incredibly useful, it's the only desirable utility in the binutils package, which otherwise includes a bunch of compilation-related utilities, and the package itself is quite large. So in the words of the “my mechanics” YouTube channel, I make a new one! It's not a 100% complete reimplementation of GNU binutils' strings, but is fine for casual binary checking. This is also set up so that if you do apt install binutils in the live environment, its strings will take precedence over the Python version. RISC-V (riscv64) unofficial build support added, in addition to amd64, i386, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x." Additional information is provided in the project's release announcement. Parrot (formerly Parrot Security OS) is a Debian-based, security-oriented distribution featuring a collection of utilities designed for penetration testing, computer forensics, reverse engineering, hacking, privacy, anonymity and cryptography. The project's latest version, Parrot 5.0, introduces some new container options and drops the KDE Plasma and Xfce editions. "Parrot's main focus on the latest release was on making the system extremely stable and flexible. The system now follows a Long Term Support release model, but provides the latest version of all its tools via extensive backporting, and is never out of date. Parrot 5.0 was designed with cloud and customizability in mind, and provides several container options to leverage powerful orchestration tools during complex pentest scenarios. The Parrot offering has been simplified, and a new Architect edition has been introduced to allow maximum customizability of the system. Parrot 5.0 keeps the former Home and Security editions, and introduces a new special HTB edition inspired by the popular PwnBox by HackTheBox. The KDE and Xfce alternatives are no longer available."
